By Rev. Tyler Cronkright, Associate Pastor at Family of God
Coronavirus and social unrest have had Pastor Hill and I thinking about how we can better serve our community and better serve our volunteers. The pandemic and shutdown have given us a lot of time to explore other avenues of doing ministry. Obviously, there is the street ministry that many of you are up to date on and the continuing food ministry. We also took some time during the pandemic to explore technological ministry, as so many other churches have, and began putting services, discussions, devotions, and sermons on our Facebook page.
One of the things that I, personally, have been doing is exploring different podcasts while being out and about on my bike. I am finding that it is an awesome way to start the day, pass the time driving in the car, and even finish the evening before bed. Anyway, I had been sharing different podcasts that I have come across with Pastor Hill and he suggested, “What if you and I began one?” This began our discussion of what our theme might be, what our purpose might be, what our logo could be, and the list goes on and on. It was some very spirited discussion.
After purchasing equipment, finding some software, and getting it all set up with a provider, we launched the first episode of Jesus, Dietrich, and Me on June 19, 2020. Each week, we look at different quotes from the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer and weave them together with Jesus and current cultural affairs. Our goal is simple. We want to enlighten our listeners about one of our favorite guys, Pastor Bonhoeffer while talking about some very tough, but serious topics. We have three episodes produced already, and I have to say that each are getting better. The discussions have been great, and the quality has been improving. We will be hoping to even have guests on the show in the future!
How big will our audience be? That remains to be discovered. But, as Abraham pleaded with God for Sodom, for the sake of 50, 45, 40, 30, 20, or even 10, we will produce the episodes. We would encourage you all to take a listen! You can find them on our Facebook page and on various platforms such as Spotify, Google Podcasts, RadioPublic, and Anchor. Please give us your feedback (email is good) as you listen! It has been a joy to do them for you!
